Your opening message
Use this longer version as a message after connecting. Section 6 includes short connection-request notes. Replace bracketed placeholders only with verified information.
A practical LinkedIn system for reaching SME owners and founders, positioning your expertise around measurable business outcomes, and starting qualified client conversations month after month.
01 / The opportunity
Most fractional executives have built their careers through operating experience, professional networks and referrals. Those are valuable advantages. But referrals arrive according to someone else's timing. Publishing on LinkedIn doesn't guarantee that a founder approaching a major business decision will see your content.
A predictable client-acquisition process requires something more deliberate. Identify companies that fit your experience, establish their current priorities, connect those priorities to the problems you solve, and maintain a relationship until there is a genuine opportunity to work together.
A business that fits your experience.
A public change or a directly stated priority.
The owner or leader responsible for the decision.
A useful insight and credible outcome.
A question grounded in context.
A recognized need and agreed next step.
Targeting decides who matters. Business context helps explain why now. Your expertise provides the reason to continue the conversation.
Begin with the business situations in which your expertise becomes especially valuable. Then build your list of owners and founders.
02 / Select your practice
Choose your practice and one business situation. The targeting, positioning, outreach and campaign examples update as you change either selection.
Choose a need your clients recognize. The setup and expansion examples include the UAE and other markets.
Choose a situation where your previous work gives you a credible reason to speak with the founder. You can change either selection at any time.
03 / Owner and founder targeting
A launch or expansion announcement can help you identify a relevant business. Cash pressure, unclear margins and founder dependency usually need to be confirmed with the owner. A general educational post shows a topic of interest; it does not establish an internal problem or buying intent.
Use LinkedIn Sales Navigator account and lead searches to identify companies by industry, geography, headcount and relevant leadership roles. Verify public announcements separately, and confirm private financial or operating priorities in a conversation.
("Founder" OR "Co-Founder" OR "Owner" OR "Managing Director" OR "CEO")Record the source and date for public context. Treat a cash, margin or operating concern as a need only after the owner confirms it. An adviser's educational posts are not evidence that their own business or any particular client has that problem.
04 / Your positioning
A founder does not buy fractional CFO support or operational consulting in isolation. They buy expertise that helps them make a financial decision, improve a measurable business process, or achieve an important operating milestone.
Adjust the assumptions in the example. Your positioning statement and the outcome in the conversation diagram will update.
These are planning examples. Use measurable targets in your actual offer only when you understand the client's baseline and have a credible basis for delivering the result. Do not present example targets as historical results.
Choose one measurable result your previous work demonstrates, or one deliverable you can credibly commit to implementing. Put that outcome at the center of your LinkedIn headline, service description and opening discovery conversations.
05 / Outreach and value
Ask a neutral business question with cold prospects. In a warm conversation, refer to what the owner has actually confirmed. Personalize every bracketed field and give the owner room to explain what matters.
Confirm the context. Explore the decision. Offer a useful way to examine it.
A useful diagnostic
Of course, here it is: [resource link].
Which of those three areas is most relevant to the decisions you're making right now?
What's your current process for handling that?
Based on what you've described, there are a couple of areas I'd investigate first. Would it be useful to talk through those options?
Help the founder examine one meaningful business problem. The diagnostic should be useful whether or not they engage your services. Create the resource before offering it, then replace [resource link] with its actual location.
06 / Make it repeatable
Start with a clear niche and ideal client profile. Then connect campaigns, message tests, useful resources and follow-up in one process. AI handles repeatable execution while you direct the strategy and lead qualified client conversations.
Define the sector, company stage, owner or founder role and business situation you can serve credibly. Use the measurable offer above to decide which accounts belong on your list.
Separate cold prospects from warm relationships. Set the reason to approach each group before writing messages.
Output: a focused campaign briefCompare two opening angles for the same audience and offer. Change one variable, then review acceptance and relevant replies.
Output: evidence for the next message testTailor the diagnostic's questions, examples and context to the sector and founder decision. Share it when relevant.
Output: a resource the prospect can useAnswer questions, share the promised resource and agree a useful next step. Record later timing and respect a decline.
Output: a response and next-action planKeep the account, verified context, campaign, status, last contact and agreed next action in one lead list.
Output: a current pipeline with datesConnect research, message preparation, resource customization, reply routing, reminders and tracker updates in an approved workflow.
Output: coordinated execution under your directionUse replies, prospect questions and pipeline movement to refine the niche, offer and next campaign. The process continues as you learn.
Use verified company context and a concise connection note. Establish context before offering the diagnostic or proposing a call.
Refer to a real prior conversation, referral or shared work. Reconnect around a relevant decision and ask whether the timing is useful.
Keep the audience, offer and closing line consistent so you can compare the opening angle. Personalize every placeholder, check your account's current note limit, and shorten the draft where needed. A small test gives directional learning, not proof of a winning message.
Suggested statuses: To research, Ready to approach, Request sent, Connected, In conversation, Resource shared, Discovery agreed, Reconnect later, Closed.
Update the row after each meaningful response. Review relevant conversations, recognized needs and agreed next steps alongside activity counts.
Choose the niche and ICP, define the offer, approve claims and outreach, and handle the conversations that require your judgment.
Prepare verified account context, adapt messages and resources, organize prospect queries, queue follow-up and maintain the Excel tracker through connected workflows.
Start with . Adapt it to the founder's situation, build it before offering it, and keep control of what is sent and when. Automation supports the process; it does not guarantee clients.
Built for your fractional practice
A focused practice needs a system shaped around its buyers, offer and expertise. Intellin connects the strategy with the campaigns, resources and workflows that carry it out.
You set the commercial direction and lead client conversations. We build the acquisition system around that direction.
